Permanent Publications' mission is to publish information which encourages people to live more healthy, self-reliant and ecologically sound ways of life. It publishes Permaculture Magazine solutions for sustainable living which has around I00,000 readers in 77 countries. It also publishes a number of books which are distributed to the UK and North American book trade, Amazon Books, and worldwide through their online catalogue, www.green-shopping.co.uk.

HISTORY

Permanent Publications established 1990. Published first title, Healthy Business The Natural Practitioners Guide To Success by Madeleine Harland and Glen Finn, which was short-listed for the Lamberts Health Book of the Year Award.
1992 Started publishing Permaculture Magazine Solutions for Sustainable Living. What started as a small circulation black and white newsletter is now a full colour magazine read on all continents of the world by people from all walks of life.
1993 published first permaculture title, Permaculture in a Nutshell by Patrick Whitefield which was voted one of the best books of the year by BBC Gardeners World Magazine. It has sold over 14,000 English version copies, is in its fourth edition and is still the standard introductory text. Translated into Russian, Czech, German and Danish.
1994 Launched The Earth Repair Catalogue, a mail order retail service supplying books, videos and magazines on all aspects of sustainable living from organic gardening, alternative technology and agroforestry, to community economics, crafts and Earth spirituality.
1994 Launched the website www.permaculture.co.uk. This incorporated Permaculture Magazine, The Earth Repair Catalogue (now The Green Shopping Catalogue), Permaculture Information and a section about Permanent Publications. This has evolved into the Permaculture Magazine group of websites we have today.
1996 Established close links with the Rodale Institute in the USA, Americas oldest and most renowned organic research institute who became distributors of Permanent Publications books in the US.
1997, Permanent Publications offices moved to a former naval base on the south coast of England which was being converted into The Sustainability Centre, a site set up to demonstrate sustainable ways of living and provide environmental learning opportunities.
1998 Permaculture Magazine is accepted for distribution by New Leaf retail distribution in the USA.
1999 Negotiated a distribution agreement for Permanent Publications books with Chelsea Green Publishing Company in the USA, one of the foremost US environmental publishers and distributors.
1999 Won the contract to design The Organic Way the new flagship colour magazine of the Henry Doubleday Research Association Europes largest organic horticulture charity.
2002 Permaculture Magazine distribution agreement for US and Canada with DirectMag.
2003 Formed an alliance with the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN). This gives a broader information base to Permaculture Magazine, while providing a news and bulletin board for the GEN network via the magazine.
2004 Published The Earth Care Manual by Patrick Whitefield. Eight years in the making and hailed in the UK, Europe and America as definitive, it offers an accessible vision of a sustainable future.
2005 Published The Woodland House by Ben Law. The building of Ben's house was the subject of Channel 4's Grand Designs programme, and this book is both a visual reminder of this.
2006 launched The Green Shopping Catalogue, a refined version of the Earth Repair Catalogue, offering books, dvds, tools and products online on a dedicated site (www.green-shopping.co.uk) and via a printed version.
2007 Permaculture Magazine distribution in the UK handled by COMAG and goes on sale in WHSmith for the first time.
2007 Permaculture Magazine becomes available digitally from Exact Editions.
2007 Permanent Publications win Hampshire & IOW Sustainable Business Awards, Sustainable Business of the Year and the Small Business Award. Editor, Maddy Harland was Specially Commended at the Womens Ethical Business Awards in London.
2007 publish Beyond You & Me, the first of four books which are part of a curriculum endorsed by the United Nations Institute for Training & Research (UNITAR).
